A Trip to The Old Town

For quite a long time I’ve been planning to go around the city I lived in now. But planning alone doesn’t get things done. And I feel so relieved that I finish and crossed something off my bucket list. Guess what is it?

I finally went to the Old Town or Kota Tua in Jakarta. It’s a really a sudden and unexpected trip. So, I read my friend’s timeline and she said she’s bored and want to get out of her boarding house. There comes the person at the same wavelength as me! So all of a sudden, we agree to explore the Old Town.

One spot in the Old Town, outside the history museum

The next day it happened. I went there by train and arrive around 9 o’ clock. Initially my friend’s friend supposed to join us, but she can’t as she has to take care of her nephew. Finally its only two of us wandering around the Old Town. Since we both have class at 15.20, so we can’t go for long. Shortly, we went to 2 museums and eat lunch. We eat Soto Ayam in the middle of the blazing sun. Even though it is so hot, we enjoy it. Especially when we can cool down in the museums.

In the Train

People might wonder “What do we do in a museum?” Well, we enter 2 museums. The Wayang museum and The Jakata History museum. We mainly do 2 things. Taking pictures and pose. But we do appreciate the artwork and historical things. That’s what makes our photos awesome, really. Not only the historical things that makes it special, these museums also has a old but good architecture.

This hallway is superb

They still have this photogenic Deutsch influenced architecture. Indonesia used to get colonized by Netherlands. Colonization is terrible as I have read the history book and internet. In the history museum, for example, there’s the underground prison used to imprison people including those slaves that doesn’t accept orders from their master. And some of the prisoners are killed on the hallway right in front of the prison. But the remaining buildings used as museum is the good part of the past deeds. Many buildings and houses from years ago are still preserved until now.

My trip to the museums in Old Town is not that long as we have to go back at one in the afternoon. *actually extended it to half past one* We have such a great time there. Just taking a break from the routine. Goes back in time in history. Appreciating Wayang as the national artwork of Indonesia. Taking pictures and make goofy pose. I would like to go back again. Hopefully soon! 😉
